What is Emotional Freedom Technique?

“Thanks so much Anne-Maree. You have made a massive difference in my life. I feel like I’m becoming the person I always was and intended to be. Thank you.”

What is it?

Therefore, EFT is also described as an energy ‘therapy’ or a meridian ‘therapy’. Meridians are pathways that connect acupressure points to each other as well as to internal organs. By working with the body’s ‘energy system’ in this way, the unconscious mind is accessed and the individual can proceed to clear the emotional (and often physical) impact of any partially or previously hidden traumatic events and experiences.

EFT is often referred to as ‘the tapping technique’. It is part of the field of Energy Psychology and is used by hundreds of thousands of people around the world to eliminate negative emotions and feelings. It does so by removing limiting beliefs and dissolving accumulated emotional pain

EFT is a powerful mind-body ‘therapy’ and is often described as emotional acupuncture without the needles because it combines gentle tapping on key acupuncture points while applying focused thought on the difficulties you would like eliminated. When skilfully applied, the underlying emotional factors that contribute to the problem are typically released along with the energy blocks.

Why does it work?

The effect of digitally tapping on these acupressure points helps to re-establish the body’s energy flow and allows an engagement with the individual’s unconscious mind. The ‘tapping’ is done whilst the person is focused on an issue and/or emotion they wish to resolve.

I have observed as an experienced practitioner that emotions frequently present as a pain or a ‘tightness’ felt in a part of the client’s body which may replicate a discomfort the person may have in their everyday lives.  By working with the discomfort and dissolving the attached emotion, the chronic pain or discomfort is released.

Once the emotional attachment is removed the individual is no longer 'stuck' and the person can no longer be triggered emotionally.

There is a lot of detailed scientific research that supports this.

Why is this change permanent?

When an emotional block has been cleared, the individual’s unconscious ‘energy’ has shifted and the benefit is often felt immediately. Provided the process has been thorough, the outcome is generally permanent.

The emotional impact of the trauma on the body’s energy system is released through using EFT, leaving the client totally relaxed and emotionally detached.

If you are under the care of a medical practitioner it is advisable to consult with the practitioner before considering substituting any existing medical management with EFT.

EFT is a wonderful adjunct to existing therapy and also as a ‘stand-alone’ modality.
